Mr Adrian Hillman joined Allied Group as Business Development Manager for Allied Newspapers Limited where his primary responsibilities were the website and the archiving department. He then became Managing Director of Progress Press during which time he oversaw the conceptualization and execution of a new facility where a €30 million state of the art press makes Progress Press one of the first environmentally conscious presses within the EU. In recent years, Progress Press has witnessed a leap from 30 employees in 2004 with a turnover of €2,000,000 to 90 employees with a turnover of €12,000,000 in 2009 while retaining double digit profitability.
Between 1998 and 2003 Mr Hillman occupied the post of media expert on the MIC consultative board. Mr Hillman graduated from the University of Malta BA (Hons.) and M.Phil. in Communication Studies, and MA in European Studies from Sussex University. He lectures in Mass Media Research and Political Communication at the Centre for Communication Technology at the University of Malta.
Following the Annual General Meeting held in 2012, Mr Hillman was elected Group Managing Director for Allied Group of Companies, of which Progress Press forms part, and was nominated to the post of Chairman of Progress Press.
Michel Rizzo - Managing Director
Mr Michel Rizzo joined Allied Group of companies in January 2005 as Chief Executive Officer of the Group’s then newly set up subsidiary Mediamaker Limited, an integrated communications company dedicated to the design and overall production of high-quality magazines, primarily for insertion in the Group’s newspaper products. He was subsequently appointed to the position of Managing Director of the company, a role he occupied till December 2012 when, following the AGM held on December 7th, he was appointed to the role of Managing Director of Progress Press Company Limited.
Directly prior to his employment with Allied Group, Michel spent 13 years at BPC International, one of Malta’s largest and most established marketing communications agencies. There, he occupied the role of Client Services Director and his client portfolio included some of Malta’s top advertising clients such as HSBC Bank Malta plc, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, Vodafone Malta and the Unilever Group.
Mr Alex Falzon joined Progress Press in January 2009. Prior to this, he worked for another major printing press as an Account Executive where he was responsible for export clients and one of the company’s major local clients before being promoted to Export Sales Executive with a focus on the UK market. As Sales Manager for Progress Press, Alex manages and leads a team of 4 people, 1 of whom is based abroad. Alex's main task on joining the company was that of acquiring new clients for the new web press. He also re-organised the sales department, implementing new systems and procedures to the benefit of our clients. Alex graduated from the University of Malta with a degree in B. Com in Economics and Management in November 2003.
Mr Noel Galea is Chief Operations Officer for Progress Press. Noel is a Mechanical Engineer and worked for a leading electronics company for close to 20 years, occupying the post of Deputy Director for Quality & Reliability prior to his departure. He was also responsible to cascade Quality-related and Problem-Solving training to Malta Plant Management and employees, University of Malta Engineering undergraduates, as well as to material/equipment suppliers during various International Conventions. Noel has successfully completed EARA-approved Advanced Environmental Management System Lead Auditor training by the British Standards Institution and periodically conducts internal Environmental Auditing in the local Industry.
Mr Claude Licari joined Allied Group's Finance department in 2001, having previously served as an Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Malta. He became Financial Controller for Progress Press in 2008 and was subequently nominated Group Financial Controller in 2011. Claude is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and of the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA). He also holds a warrant (CPA) to practice as a public accountant.
Mr Matthew Naudi has been employed with the Allied Group of Companies since 1986. His roles within the Group have ranged from editorial to managerial. For the past six years Matthew has held the post of Group Human Resources Manager and is currently responsible for implementing and directing the HR strategy for the Group of Companies of which Progress Press Co. Ltd. forms part. Matthew obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2011.
